- Malcolm starts to work at a variety of jobs.
- For 6 months he transported betting slips for the numbers lottery system.
- Then he working in a Gambling Parlor.
- He works for a Madam where he transports white people to prostitutes.
- He bootlegs liquor.
- Malcolm begins to gamble more and more, and loses a great deal of money.
- He has one day to return all money to "West Indian Archie.
- He begins to get high on various types of drugs.
- After waking up the next day past the dead line, he runs into "West Indian Archie" and instead of being stabbed or shot he is publicly humiliated.
- The next day he punches a Hustler in the Face. Now "West Indian Archie", the police, and the Hustler are out for Malcolm.
- He runs away to Boston.
